The Obscura [Hull, UK].

BA3 Final Project
Concept: Transfiguring Roots
Project Type: Architecture
Location: Hull, UK
Year: 2016
Building Type: Cultural

My concept is all about the idea of ‘transfiguring roots’, it implies to portray an element of the past [roots] in a modified form [transfiguring]. For my project I wanted to focus on the history of Hull, more focus is placed on the culture and the earliest forms of Hull, for example the trading, ships, docks and more - elements of Hull that made it the place it is today. To contextualise my concept I aimed to reconnect with the origins of hull by telling a story throughout the building.

Hull is derived from the words HOL or OL – Gaelic for water; HOL is a praenomen in many compound names implying water, streams, rivers and many more. Hull has unorthodox and strange myths and legends but also is rich in its history of culture, hence it being the city of culture 2017.
